Default WARNING: Adobe Flash Update may infect your computer with McAfee

Adobe Flash Updates may include McAfee Security Scan and Ask Toolbar.

It's a bit easier to get rid of than the Russian type malware scammers but other than that it's the same i.e. Low-ball infestation of junk you don't need.

Do not allow any Flash Updates without reading everything and opting out of the junkware.

We got caught out on a laptop at home that the children use for homework etc. My son did ask me if it was OK to allow a Flash update - I agreed but didn't expect Adobe to infect the computer with unwanted junk.

I think it was the Computer Shopper mag. that advised not to use the Adobe Flash update pop-up about a year ago. Check for updates via their web site.

Sounds like Flash will get the same "invasive:avoid!" reputation that Real Player had, if Adobe aren't careful.

Bit more digging and Eh up! - DRM is here is again.....

    http://www.adobe.com/aboutadobe/pres...luti ons.html

"Together, McAfee and Adobe will deliver an integrated Data Loss Prevention (DLP) and Enterprise Digital Rights Management (DRM) solution to expand the reach of data protection beyond the enterprise boundaries."

"McAfee has made a free diagnostic tool, McAfee Security Scan, available as an optional download to customers when installing Adobe® Reader® and Adobe Flash® Player software from Adobe.com. The McAfee tool enables consumers to easily check for anti-virus software and firewall protection on their computers. When the scan is complete, users see a report detailing the presence and status of security protection, and are presented with special offers for McAfee security software, including McAfee Anti-Virus, McAfee Internet Security, McAfee Total Protection, and McAfee Family Protection."

There's now an even better reason to update your browser to support html5 as both you-tube and vimeo are trialling the use of the new standard in preference to flash.
