I'm working late to a deadline and I'm trying to extract the audio from a DVD.
I filmed a couples wedding reception and I have permission to incorporate the wedding DVD that was made for them over in Cyprus. however while I can get the VOB files I can't find any AOB files on the disc. only the video folder appears with the VOB files etc but there is nothing on the disc with audio. I'm only looking for the vows section, is there even a way I could record the audio real time while playing it. I'm using a Mac. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My Lusky, you are working late. Play the DVD and output the L/R channels to your audio capture programme.

Being a naive sort of chap, I'm not sure whether Lusky is simply having a little fun with us, or whether he really does not realise that VOB files contain both video and audio.

Thanks for the replies, I'll try that Branny.
Ray, I did think that as I've taken the files from DVD before but there is no audio on these VOB files when I extract them. It was 1 in the morning when I started and I'd just had a long hard wedding and I invented AOB files. anyway finally fell asleep around four, my 8 week old son started stirring around 6 then my 3 year old daughter woke me with an inflatable spider at 7 and I'm back on the computer. If I post any strange posts tonight, then it's probably the caffeine. just so I know I'm not going doolally If I rename a VOB file M2V then I can watch the video but it has no audio. how do I hear the audio on the VOB file? Ta

Audio may be AC3 , so you need a ac3 codec on the computer. On the pc i use ac3filter @ http://ac3filter.net/ Might be worth downloading videolan ( vlc player ) @ http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ , allows you to play most things

Gary/Lusky,
I get the impression Lusky can play the DVD on mac and hear audio, so doesn't this imply the codec for whatever audio format is already there? Don't know if renaming vob to mpg would make any difference. Can't you play DVD and..in pc land.. I have software for 'record what u hear'. |

Thanks Gary & Dave.
The DVD plays fine on my computer as a DVD but the VOB file (when renamed to m2v & mpg) will play as video but no audio. Final cut pro even recognises the VOB file without having to change the extension, but again, video and no sound. Could the DVD audio be encoded in a way that Mac software can't understand? I'm probably overlooking something simple.

MPEG Streamclip (free) will open VOB files and demux into separate video and audio files for you, Lusky.
