Camcorder Repair

My Panasonic NV-DS 38 had an accidental knock. The only damage is a smashed LCD screen. The rest of the camcorder works fine but it is a pain having to view everything through the viewfinder. My insurer requires an estimate and suggested a firm in Devon but they don't answer their telephone. Panasonic could not provide information of any service centre within reasonable distance of my home. Only one local retailer would take the camcorder to send away but they demanded £65 just to obtain the estimate. Does anybody know of a camcorder repairer within striking distance of North London/Enfield that they could recommend? I really would appreciate any advice.

I haven't seen anyone who doesn't require at least £30 to give an estimate - that is normally knocked off the bill if you proceed with the repair (or built into the price they charge?) - I don't think that this is unreasonable, given they have to spend time working on it.

I would check with your insurance company that they are happy to pick up the tab for estimates, carriage etc.

I don't know anyone in N London but I got very good service from a company in Redhill when my Canon XE1 required attention to its tape drive, it that is any use to you?

Once again I'll recommend the good services of DNH in Chislehurst (020 8295 0568).

Not really far from Enfield - round the 25 CW, over Betty's Bridge and dive in at J3.
