USB Flash/Pen drive query

Recently bought a 4GB pen drive made by "Integral" and to my dismay has this unwanted and to me utterly useless second drive that comes up when I plug it in causing nothing but a nuisance when all I want to do is plonk a file on the thing or retrieve it

The second drive (partition?) contains Ice Pen Security Application Manual_1.pdf and UDPv272.exe, how do I get rid of these and the partition so I have a single empty drive?

I understand it's some password protection thingy which I don't want it but am scared to format it in case it doesn't function anymore

Thanks in advance.

I Googled Integral+support and got this

http://www.integral-techsolutions.com/support/support.html

You could try emailing them. The page says they support anyone who has bought a product, so it is worth a try I suppose - Karrie

claire .... most drives come with this software ( or similar ) these days

i would copy them to hard-drive , then format the drive ...... i have with several , and have 1 x fullsize partition/drive

if you run the exe , i think it may allow you to remove it that way too

Okay, found the manuafacturer's web site which is http://www.integralmemory.com and the FAQ for it (USB 2.0 Ice Flash Drive) contains this gem..

"Q: I don’t have a need for the floppy partition on the USB Flash Drive. Is there a way to get rid of this?"

"A:unfortunately, there is not."

Me: "HUH!"

The smaller partition is a pain, not usable for data but when I insert the pen drive in the computer it comes up with 2 separate windows not one and on the PS3 I have to manually open each one to see which is which. I eased the situation a bit by naming the smaller one "DONT_USE".

OOPS spoke to soon.

:o

Obviously you’ve tried tech support.

All I could suggest is google “free encryption software” or “password protect USB Flash Drive” then take your choice.

Saying that, True Crypt is much vaunted.

Well at least your's works.

I formatted mine on a Mac as MS-Dos. It works on my Mac and my work PC but not my home laptop. The only thing I can put it doen to is that my laptop is USB 1.0 and not 2.0.

Never come across this before. Running Win XP SP2.

Thanks

Try this - I got this utility from Integral themselves a few months ago - seemed to to the job.

Re: USB Flash/Pen drive query

Never say never! It's now October 2014 and after 5 and a half years I finally got rid of the unwanted partition today cool

The app I that finally worked was UDP2736.exe which unlike earlier versions has a partition divider slider that accepts zero instead of the previous lower limit of 2MB.

It instructs you to remove and re-insert the pen a couple of times, probably removing the partitions and then a format. The utility also copied itself from my computer to the pen drive,
presumably in case I wanted to restore the partition and add a password. Actually I removed this later before restoring my backed up files and all seems well.
