Has anyone any experience of working with this unit and would care to offer their comments and opinion. I'm considering buying one of the new model - ie 10Gb disc with upgrade to 64Gb available.

Thanks

I have not used this item - but - Tascam have a very good reputation for quality.

The 788 is a "Portastudio" rather than a "Digital Audio Workstation" - so if this is what you want, Tascam is always a good bet.

Thanks for the advice - what is the distinction between a DAW and a Portastudio?

If you follow the link to the Tascam website pasted above - select "Portastudios" and then "788" you will get the full details.

Basically a "Portastudio" is a complete studio in a single box with recording, bounce-down and mixing facilities - a "Digital Audio Workstation" is more of a computer editing system.

You would normally use a "Portastudio" as a musician creating music and a "DAW" if you have already recorded the stuff and want more sophisticated editing facilities.

You can create music on a "DAW" and you can see the waveforms and what things are doing - but a "Portastudio" is more ergonomic and instinctive to use for a creative musician.

At least, this is how I see it.

I hope this helps.

I have just seen the 788 being sold in a specialist music store near me for £399. It is being promoted as a HALF PRICE offer.

Does this seem a good price? It does say it has a 7.5GB Hard Disk ( I see a 10GB is mentioned above ) So is this out of date stock??

If anyone is interested it is at Bonners in Brighton & Hove.

Thanks - I paid 361 inc VAT and a number of places offer the latest model for 375 so maybe bonner's isn't the cheapest but thanks anyway.
