Not really video but we need to add posts to keep this board alive!

i recently bought a new smart sony tv but it doesn't have itv player for licensing reasons.
I thought about adding a chrome sat or similar to feed the tv with itv player and other on demand services

will this work?

Don't know about Chromesat, I have my Humax freesat plugged into mine and, just switch to that when i need itv player or, am likely to want to pause or record tv.

Homeplugs connected to both for ease.

I drink to steady my nerves. Last night I got so steady I couldn't move. Wedding video essex

I have a Humax but don't think that it does net access. I will take a look.

I gather that it's a rights issue. It's annoying as I took "i-player' to read as all catch ups and didn't think to ask.
It isn't vital but I have had to go upstairs to my mac to watch a catchup.

Be careful about exactly WHICH catch-up players are available on which devices.  ITVplayer is available on few devices (maybe Samsung TVs only I think?) - clearly, as mentioned, a "licensing issue": I assume Samsung paid handsomely for the exclusive rights.

I too have a Sony smart TV and with each firmware upgrade I hope for more UK catch-up players - sadly nothing yet - only BBC and Ch.5.

The WDTV Live Player is similarly limited to BBC iPlayer only.

It would be good to find a device (other than a PC) with them ALL: BBC iPlayer, ITVplayer, 4OD and Demand5.

Mooblie, the aforesaid Samsung smart TV has all of those and lots more.  Far more than I care to use, actually.  My Humax freesat box has BBC iPlayer and ITVplayer but, interestingly, the interface is very different and far less user friendly than the Samsung telly.

Two options that I use:

My Freeview Talk Talk box also has the full set of catch-up options

Not that I find a lot on ITV catch-up that I want to watch wink

Mooblie, the February issue of 'WHICH' magazine shows details of various streaming devices. The Roku 3500EU (£49.00 Argos or online £44.00) may be the answer to your requirements. I also have a Sony smart tv and I have the same frustrations on catch-up features. I reckon that I will give it a try.

I saw this 'Now TV" device in Tesco today, £20 for all the catchups and youtube

Thanks again, guys.  The Roku stick looks very interesting, especially as it appears to play media on your home network too (a requirement for me too)...

For the NowTV box: I have seen conflicting reports on whether/how/if it works WITHOUT a (chargeable) Now subscription taken out, once the bundled free trial subscription is over.

Hi Mooblie

I see what you mean, I have it as an option on my TalkTalk box but haven't used any of the add on's so I have no extra outlay.....yet.

The catch-ups are all free for me via the TalkTalk box, although the Humax is always my first option, having a extra HD tuner is useful sometimes for my personal needs and time shifting.
