Hi, We were asked to produce a promotional piece (2 min long) by a local establishment to go on their website.  I would like to find out what you, my piers, think about the film.  What message(s) about the establishment did you get from the film?  Did you like the film? The good, the bad and the ugly truth!

Thank you all for your valuable time and feedback.

My aim in this post is twofold.  Firstly to see if we hit the brief with our storyboard / final film and secondly to get some feedback we can use to grow and improve.

Well filmed and edited though a little ambient sound may have added some sole (sic) to the piece. Not sure if the client appreciates the near empty bar and restaurant look, but only you would know that. I'd be very pleased with the output though.

Do not follow, I may not lead. Do not lead . . . I may not follow.

Thanks Branny.  It is amazing the different feedback people have offered who have seen it, from folks who know and use TCM and others not familiar with it and different age ranges.  I have now re edited it into a shorter piece so if you want to you can have a look see again - it is on the same link - I just swapped out the film.

The client has given us a tall order to fill - and hamstrung us with no V/O or graphics or voxpops.  Very difficult to tell the story he wanted (with 8 main points to get across!)  with just music and pictures.  I felt like saying to him - why do you have any text on your website then!

Sadly with the great weather we had a week or so back, on the day of the shot - all the patrons sat outside and inside was dead, even though it was a good day for service!  The owner has a very clear idea of who his ideal customer is, down to the clothes they wear, the music they listen to and the car they drive!  We had to take that on board with the storyboard while making sure we somehow, with no V/O illustrated that they have fresh food delivered daily, are close to a main road while still being in the country, have wonderful grounds, have rooms available to stay in, but never losing sight of the fact that they are a pub!  If possible we were also to bring in an element of the fact that it is a great place to meet because of its geographic location!!

Now that you know the vague brief and we have re edited slightly to tighten it all up, have your views changed at all?

Looking forward to your and others  comments.

Regards,

Right, having heard all the feedback from various sources and agreed with much of it, passed it on to the client, bounced a few ideas around we have added a few extra shots and this is the final outcome to go into their marketing campaign.

Thank you all for your reviews and comments.

So much better! A busy looking kitchen and restaurant and a really nice flow to it now. A shame the forum hasn't picked up the pace it had before the crash as you'd have had many more creative opinions and positive comments.

I like it because it's business like, has clarity and isn't trying to be a piece of art with shallow depth of field and clever tricks. I've always firmly believed that this kind of video needs honesty and straight forwardness. The shots of the fish at the end don't compromise this - they show the environment. Music for me is always really tricky, but this was the kind of music that didn't have me leaping for the volume control - and that's my usual test. I was quite happy without location sound.

I would imagine the client was very happy with the result.

I know this was posted some time ago - but for what it's worth - I like it.  The style is clean without fussy and distracting special effects etc, which for this sort of promotional film is perfect.  The pace is spot on - it communicates everything a potential customer would want to know without becoming tedious or boring.  I particularly loved the shots of the food - made me want to eat there myself!!  Food always sells! (well for me anyway) ;)  You did a great job of it.  Your website is also like your film - clean, simple (in a good way!) and informative.
