Good prices AND free delivery - HEXUS.net secures great deal with Scan

Thought I just had to alert you to a great deal that David Ross at HEXUS.net has secured for people who are members of the HEXUS forums.

Somehow, don't ask me how, he's managed to talk Scan Computers into giving HEXUS.community members free delivery on all goods ordered for the UK.

Scan's prices are usually pretty good but some people (myself included) have been put off by the one-size-fits-all delivery charges.

Now though, the delivery charge is being waived, so check out how to take advantage by visiting this HEXUS.community thread:

I note it's for Hexus members, does that include us here if we're not technically Hexus members (like me)?

Get my test cards document, and cards for 625, 525, 720 and 1080. Thanks to Gavin Gration for hosting them.
Camera settings documents are held by Daniel Browning and at the EBU
My book, 'Circles of Confusion' is available here.
Also EBU Tech.3335 tells how to test cameras, and R.118 tells how to use the results.

No no - you are fine - what we want to let people know is that you have to be over there to get the deal :)

OK, so all we have to do is to get registered, no need to actively take part in proceedings.

hi Guys,

this page - http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.php?t=51314&page=16&pp=15 - of the thread, has a posting which hopefully explains stuff a little more clearly.

i suggest that you try and register at both the HEXUS.community forums and HEXUS.trust using the same User Name as you do on the DVdoctor.community.

for obvious reasons active, registered DVdoctor.community forum members are not obliged to make the 25 posts on the HEXUS.community (though it would be nice if you do) but you really should post your HEXUS.trust retailer rating and any feedback about your experience of SCAN on the HEXUS.trust.

please also have a looksee at this posting here - http://forums.hexus.net/showpost.php?p=537018&postcount=257 - by a SCAN employee, which explains that you can take advantage of this offer today.

hope this helps!

cheers,

PD

1. It was impossible for me to register on Hexus with my own DVDOctor username. Someone swiped it!
2. Please could some very kind colleague here tell me in plain language how to get my Hexus user ID. I've spent hours on the site attempting to do just this to no avail. Scan merely repeats its request for a valid user ID in the manner of all dumb inanimates.

It would seem I am forever banned from this valuable privilege since I have insufficient interest in going faster, practising one-upmanship in technological acquisitions and so on, just a passionate interest in using a pc creatively.

If help is available please post it for me

perhaps that someone admired your drollness Michael?

i'd just hate to see you dissatisfied or frustrated further Michael, so if you tell me a new User Name you'd like to have (not the password) then to save you any more trouble i'll sort it all out for you?

i'm wondering if there's a certain irony here... :)

perhaps you'd care to introduce yourself to the friendly folk in the HEXUS.community and ask whether they think your view of them is accurate? :D

once you let me know the new User Name you'd like to have, i'll email you your HEXUS.community log-in details and then update your DVdoctor User Name so that they correspond.

hope this helps…

The irony was self directed. It's age related.
Could we try Michael-11?
And thank you very much. Your own humour is as much appreciated as your offer to help. I do have a Hexus username, which is Michael-S.
It's the ID number... - oh dear, will this happen with them new-fangled government issue cards too?

Interesting Thread

I registered on the Hexus site (same user name) before the Scan offer came out, althought I hadn't actually posted on it.

When the offer came out. I posted to find out my user number.

The immediately assumption from the Hexus community was that I had joined Hexus just to get the free postage from Scan. Even when I pointed out I have been on DVdoctor for quite a while I was still slagged off.

Strangely no-one from Hexus or Scan cut in to say that DVDoctor membership qualified and I was accused of Spamming to get my post count up and the thread deleted.

to be quite honest , I don't always find Scan the cheapest , so it isn't bothering me.
I was looking for a dvd player for a workmate the other day , scan was xx.xx plus postage , which in theory meant xx.xx for us.
Another site was xx.xx inc postage , no matter who you were and supplied multiregion.

I Agree Gary

Scan are reasonably competitive generally on prices but are quite often beaten, but they can have some quite good offers on their 'Today Only' page, so the free postage can be a bonus.

To be honest, I'm still smarting a bit from the kicking I got over there, my honesty was challenged and I don't like that.

It has a different feel to the one here.
Not bad , just different , and sometimes posts go way off track , so i stop following them.
So busy with here and uknova , that neither digital spy , canopus nor hexus get much of a look in these days .... know what i'd better spend some of tomorrow doing while other half is out maning an exhibition stand.

So much for the 'friendly people on Hexus' it would seem.

Having read this thread I just registered at Hexus with the same username as here.
I then posted here:
http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.php?t=51925&page=11&pp=15
asking if I was good to go, and was informed by two different (seemingly official ) Hexus people that I still needed to make 25 posts there and that the offer only applied to Hexus members at the moment.

So all this is in complete contradiction to what the person from Hexus posted above.

Humph. I suppose I could go and argue the point for 23 more posts and qualify that way....

Mark,

It was myself who advised you you need to have 25 posts. I am afraid it still remains, the comment from Paul above unfortunately currently cannot work as the Scan system checks the HEXUS community for information and verification, there are no checks included on the DVDoctor forums.

Slipperman,

I am aware that there were issues when you registered and the humour and comments that were implied came across as offensive, we are aware this was not an ideal introduction and have spoken to some of the people concerned to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Thanks Mark, I think all is well over there. We 'wiped the slate clean' in anither thread.

I went to the bother of signing up for the main hexus forum and then clicked on the link to find you can now use your dvdoctor account for validation. As I only have 1 post on hexus and the system accepted me it looks to be working :)

Thanks for the tip. For others trying it, note that if you tick the "Use DVdoctor account" box, then you need to put your DVdoctor User ID, not your Hexus User ID in the first box.

I've tried signing up with my DVDoctor account and it doesn't appear to work for me any ideas?
