I`m considering getting one of these, does anyone have any experiences of it?

Yup. What to you want to know? In a nutshell - a DSR-11 in this year's bodyshell, that does HDV too. Does everything I wanted/expected. ("HVR-M15E" strictly?)

Thanks Mooblie, main question is, obviously I can feed in HD from the edit suite (Liquid 6.1), can I take an analogue out from the deck to a client monitor to see in real time when I play the timeline?
Cheers

Hi
Doesn't do that with a Mac, so I don't imagine that Liquid does the necessary GOP-conform on the fly to allow a proper transport stream to be sent to the deck.

Does Liquid 6.1 have the full screen preview option? Avid Liquid 7.2 can show you a full-screen, though not-quite-full resolution, preview on your computer monitor. It's not capable, though, of sending full HDV down the firewire without rendering everything first - takes about half the duration of the sequence you are going to play out, at least on my system.
Isn't the HVR-M15AE a new version that plays Canon's "F" mode HDV as well as the standard "I" and "P" flavours?

(We have since spoken Barry.) Just to confirm - check that Liquid can produce HDV on the fly at all from the timeline first - it might not be able to. As Paul says: FCP on a Mac won't.
For HDV client monitoring, I use an Matrox MXO, which translates the HDV in realtime from the timeline into a DVI-corrected output on a 24" WS-LCD display - but that's all Mac-only.
BTW: PDF User Manual here (www.bfm.ee/web/data/www_files/facilities/manuals/SONY-HVR-M15E-Video-recorder-USER-MANUAL.pdf), if it helps.

Have you also considered the M35E deck, I appreciate that it is more but it also has an HD/SD-SDI port.
I bought one last April and it is a superb deck with a lot more PRO features.

We have the old model (sans P modes) and it's fine.
Have menu and 4 way buttons on front panel - much more convenient than DSR11.
Shows audio levels in vision too - which is nice.

I`m sure that Liquid vers 6.1 works with HD! But although I`ve tried getting some in for test purposes, I`ve yet to succeed :-(
I set the project to accept HDV 1080/50 but no joy.
If anyone is using HD with Liquid 6.1 I`d be gratefull for any tips.
Cheers.

With the deck/camera disconnected from the computer and idle check that menu options for iLink output are set to HDV.
I tend not to use any of the auto options for HDV/DV mode playback either & prefer to set the machines to DV/DVCAM/HDV as required.
I'm not sure how LE works but Premiere has several options for device control - you must select HDV Device Control for HDV (sounds obvious but.....).

Thanks Gavin, I did that, I also connected the 2 Z7`s via firewire & set to HDV to prove I was going out in HD. I`m sure that I selected the right format for the project, i.e. HDV 1080/50i.
Hopefully, some will see the post & advise.
In all honesty, it`s not a prob at the moment as I don`t have the means to burn an HD type of disc.
