For all of us who've been saving head hours on our DV cameras over the last few years by doing playbacks on a video walkman, this HDV walkman looks interesting. Just under a thousand notes inc VAT (and I remember paying about that for my GV-D300 many, many moons ago).

Also useful as a backup HDV recorder for 'belt and braces' jobs. Wouldn't it be wonderful if it allowed you to input from a DV camera via firewire and up-convert so that you could do an HDV recording from a DV source? Bet it doesn't, though.

Err, and what would the point of that be? Surely, as the old adage says, cr*p in = cr*p out...

Consistancy (all the tapes from a job in the same tape format).

I saw these at the IOV Show last year but no-one could tell me if they played DVCAM.

It's not mentioned in the spec BUT every MiniDV Sony device I know of DOES play DVCAM even though it's not an official feature.
