View Full Version : Falling Apart (my CV mag)

Help! Bob, what's happening? I have CV for a year and all's fine. Then the price jumps and my mag falls apart.
And I mean really falls apart. The pages seem to be stuck in rather than stapled, and the sticky just isn't - I have loose leaf pages all over my den. Real mess. Staples again, please.

My copy is just the same Tom. Must be a real bad batch, and as I am one who likes to squirrel these sort of things away for nearly ever, I'm not best pleased!

Mine's fine. Dropped it in the bath, my 17 month old son has played with it, even the wife has read it! So far, it is still in one piece :)
Doesn't help I know, but....

http://www.safety-online-internet.com/host/computervideo/ubb/smile.gif Now I'm feeling even better about not renewing the subscription.
90% of what I want to know I can find in this bulletin board, and 90% of what constitutes the magazine comes FROM this bulletin board.
At least when the interent falls apart - it's usually all stuck back together next time one logs on! hehe http://www.safety-online-internet.com/host/computervideo/ubb/smile.gif

Ditto to the mag falling apart,I would rather have the thinner paper and real staples.

And Bob C's away on 2 weeks holls - I'd hoped for a reply before he left.
Since I posted 3 days ago, the mag has disintegrated further, and I'm going to have to punch holes and reassemble it in a folder. And I don't take it into the bath, shower, garden shed or in any way upset it.

not much help, but my mag has fallen apart too, even before my cat decided to try and take it through the cat flap! Now I've got two copies of August mag.... one destroyed, one not... yet!

Well, I made the mistake of bending the mag back slightly against it's spine and at that point realized my mistake, as several pages fell out. I now read the mag with just as much interest but a great deal more care in handling.

My God. now I know what is meant by the silly season.
My issue is falling apart, but who gives a f*** I shall just file it as is, at least I can throw away the parts I don't want. No PLEASE no comment.

I thought I had a joke (loose leaf) version and, despite Royston2000's opinion to which he is entitled, I find it annoying. (What are you going to call yourself in 2001, Royston? Did you hear about the students in the US who 'phoned 20th Century Fox and asked them what they were going to call themselves after 1999? They had registered "21st Century Fox" and netted themselves $6 million!)
As for David's (in my opinion to which I'm also entitled) rather silly comment - who do you think would pay for/run this Bulletin Board if there hadn't been CV mag in the first place with people paying, and continuing to pay, money for it?! My sub is due for renewal this month and I shall renew it - and continue to subsidise freeloaders like you. You know who you are!

I used to be happy to pay for the mag - till I was paying to read what I had already paid (albeit to BT and my ISP) to read once before.
If this bulletin board were in addition to what used to be (and I'm going back to the once every two months days) a MUCH more interesting and better editorial/garbage ratio publication, I'd happily subscribe again.
Loosing site of the factors that make a mag GOOD has caused the demise of many good magazines over the 35 or years I've been buying magazines.

Altho' I do not know what Alan Francis is trying to say, I can honestly say that I shall still use 2000 in my user name, as I am sure that God will still say that in the begining, etc, etc, etc.
I buy the Magazine every month at my local W.H. Smiths. Which keeps two companies going.
Seriously, are you really that worried about your magazines condition.

Yes - a page fell out of mine when I tried to persuade it to stay open at a page.
It also makes my briefcase much heavier now.

I'm back in the country now but, supposedly, still on holiday!
The binding of the August issue is of very serious concern to me since ALL the issues, as far as I can tell, are the same.
To say that I am angry about this doesn't get close to how I feel. There have been some strong words with the printers, so I hope nothing similar will happen again.
The best solution I've found, so that the mag stays in one piece, is to use those plastic U-channel document holders - each of the August issues in use in the office is now held together by one.
Apologies for the major inconvenience caused.

Hi Bob,
Does this mean that a free U channel piece of plastic will be a free gift on the next issue.
Dont take this to serious, Chill babe.

Neale,
I was hoping we'd be able to make a big killing by selling the critters!
;)
By the way, I had a number of discussions today with various folk about the problem and, although the Sept issue doesn't suffer in the same way, we've decided to reduce the print area in the gutter, so we can ensure that more glue is put in!

So that's where the expression Gutter Press came from!

Well.. my August edition remained pristine. Pity about the September one... I breathed heavily on it reading page 14, and it fell apart in front of my eyes. So 'gutter press glue' didn't appear to work Bob.
But enjoy mag anyway... keep up good work

I always treat CV with such reverence that I have had no problems. I must say that the previous low quality paper copies were often torn on the newsagents shelf. But this will no longer be an issue as the Dorking branch of WH Smith has decided to stop stocking CV. After visiting the shop several times without finding September, a member of staff confirmed it had been dropped, mumbling something about having had to employ someone to collect the loose leaves from all over the shop...

Gladders!!
That is well below the belt, and did NOT make me smile, either!

Same here, I have issues dating back to last year that have been used and abused, no problems at all. August and Sept issues are just coming apart, with Sept being probably the worst and Ive only had it a week. Hope this is not going to continue this way. Great mag and I can't wait for each issue to come out, but if it keeps falling apart within days...............

With 22 hits on this topic, can I claim some sort of CU record for starting the thread?

I guess the Mag is like life
Just when you think its getting good
something falls out
in this case its the binding
Perhaps you should give a free roll of sticky tape with every issue !!!
