New product reviews. Of course, to keep us all updated.
"How-to" Series. On going: newcomers & experienced can learn or be reminded or updated.
Also how others have made noteworthy films.
K.I.S.S. Delia Smith's new cookery book was enormously successful. Why? Because she Kept It Simple Sweetie, assuming nobody knew anything. (Demands for 90,000 frying pans hit the manufacturer who was used to selling 132 a year. Success story?) OK, so TV helped a bit.
(What does ICQ no. on your sign up form mean?)
Compatibility of kit. I have suggested this as a valuable reference base for everybody building or extending their set-up. Only a specialist mag. like CV, or its forum boards has the facility (not the best word) to provide this. See my suggestion posted on the CV Mag. board.
Digital Video. Personally I shall resist this as long as possible because of its enormous demands on processing power, disc size, compression, and the wallet. I can see why it is so popular, and it should be seriously addressed by CV, but Hi8, linear & hybrid systems using PCs to do the donkey work are great for those of us just starting out & not wanting to splash cash until we know where we're going. Please continue to support & encourage this wing of video.
EVERY aspect of film making which involves a computer should be included. I still can't find out the respective advantages of dynamic v. condenser mics, & how amplification, and line v. mic. sockets into the PC all interact. I want to read in CV how my video widget should be set up for optimum performance, not have to buy a widget magazine.
Product Specs. & Price Lists. Only if they're concise, up-to-date and Legible: not all of us have fighter pilot eye sight, and computer based publishing makes it all too easy to reduce the text till it fits & not notice that it's almost illegible.
Best wishes.
