Where is Alan Soloman? I found his contribution to the CV boards interesting and informative....I was just wondering where he has been recently.

I enjoy reading your column Alan, it reflects some of my hair pulling sessions in this field that I know you have to go through as part of the learning process but keep hoping someday there will products that do what they say they will straight out of the box!!!

Naw , I don't mean it ,that would spoil all the fun wouldn't it.Anyway keep them coming please

Here's my question on this subject to the good doctor, and his reply.

I find the format of the new board too complex and difficult to follow, could we go back to the old one? :)

Plus I'm a bit busy on various things.... I just bought two new computers, one is a Linux file server for Windows clients, the other is a nice little 369 pound job for MPG capture.

Hello, here I am.

I got the Linux server working, and the MPG capture box is now driving an MP10 and a
VideOh!, I might also move the Dazzle to there too. WOuldn't it be nice if there
was one MPG capture thingy that had all
the advantages of those three, plus software
that works?

I have a theory about why we get sold things that don't work. My theory is that the management of the companies genuinely are unaware that they don't work, and assume that they do, because they've seen it working in one system, and they think all systems are the same as the one they tried it in.

The MP10 software crashed a few times as I
was using it, and I had to reboot at one
time to get it working.

But it'll be a long time before anything beats the installation of Vitec MPEG editor, wiping out my windows directory and forcing me to completely re-install Windows on a computer.

I got the Queens Award for Technology for my software

Hi

My theory is that these companies know they will not make quick progress in developing these technologies if they were tested to 'consumer ' standard and are aware that morons like us will do the testing and fault finding for them enabling them to shove out the next amazing product with the fixes and new bugs as well!!!

I also think the world will end next year http://www.safety-online-internet.com/host/computervideo/ubb/smile.gif

That's the great thing about these forums, everyone has a voice and a point of view. you obviously have yours. However I'm afraid my view is entirely diametrically opposed to yours on this occasion. I find Alan Solomons columb written in a way I can understand - he could obviously lose all of us with jargon if he wished - it is written as a journal about his hands-on experience with this equipment, something you will see people clamouring for on this site, he pulls no punches with his opinions and I for one always enjoy and learn something new from his column. Long may it continue. I think you will find yourself a lone voice in the wilderness on this occasion. At least I hope you do - otherwise there's something seriously wrong with MY judgement.
Keep on having your opinion - thats democracy.

Ken

"Uneducated, basic drivvel."

That's "drivel" with one "v".
