Being a numbnutz, I managed to complete an interview with an HDR-HC1E at 1080i

I will actually stream this at 320x240

What I want to do is have 'safe margins' on the screen around the 720x576 or 640x480 mark...

...so that I can 'edit into the safe zone' and then output to an AVI which I will downsize for web later

I am using Premiere 1.51

Any help appreciated !!!

:)

I think ayou need a 1440 x 1080 still image, transparent with a thin line around the edge. Import it in PPro and use "Interpret Footage" to make sure it's correctly identified as square pixels, otherwise it will be stretched and will cover the whole screen.

A job for a graphics program like Photoshop or better still Fireworks.

Or you could make a colour matte in PPro and use the motion effects to scale it's width down, lower it's opacity so it's just visible and of course turn it off when rendering.

Thanks for the reply Claire...

...but what I was hoping to do was change something about Premiere's set-up so that it knew I intended to output the final product to a more regular 4:3 format

That 'plopping an image in front' is what I'd normally do for web design stuff - so I agree it is a good technique...

...but I had rather hoped that a pro-style package like Premiere would have allowed me to (for example) right-click on the 'safe margins' and choose an output format

It would seem daft to have such a high-quality product without this feature

On the other hand - I have JUST downloaded the Premiere 2 demo...

...so, rather than bleat on here, maybe I should just join the 21st century - who knows - maybe they have already 'solved this problem' ;)

Oh! yes indeed.. in PPro 2.0 you can just do this easily in project settings.

Just enter the figures you want as a percentage of the whole for the safe areas and you are done!

Must remember this, I quite often need to edit stuff myself in PPRo that must "work" in 4:3 and I missed this simple method. Not sure if it is in PPRo 1.5 though?
