anyone know anything about the quality of this CRT (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=013&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=230073367087&rd=1&rd=1)?

is the JVC HV-32P37

my old 32" just blew a gasket, so I need a new TV. Don't really want to spend 500-1000 on an LCD quite yet - and this JVC seems to satisfy a few requirements

thanks

hehehehe - doesn't worry me.

current 32" must weigh similar.

Looks nice but:
Display Capabilities
Aspect Ratio 16:9
Broadcast Format Supported 1080i (HDTV)
Broadcast Format Displayed 525p • 625p
from here: http://www.dealtime.co.uk/xPF-JVC-HV-32P37

Can't find any specs on it's true resolution, but this above looks suspiciously like it down converts to 625 :-(

The Samsusng WS32Z408D8XXEU however is closer to HD but still not full 1080i. However I have 2 friends now with one of these and they are very impressed.

Is it me, or is there no mention of HD in the instructions until the specs list at the end!?!
Also no HDMI.
I would want to see this set and its pictures in SD and HD for real before thinking about buying it. Buyer beware!!

Hmmmm I was looking at that as well, though I'm not too bothered about HD. Have bought a Toshiba HDD/DVD Recorder off them about 7 months ago which was not a bad price, speady delivery and works fine.

I recently bought a Sony Trinitron 32" widescreen off a private seller, looked fine when I picked it up but after watching it a while, every time there is some sort of light in the picture or bright white titles it sends a horizontal beam across the screen that discolours everything in it's line.

1125i is the full raster for both the now-extrinct Japanse 1035 and the current world-wdie 1080 image HDTV systems. 1125 is the full number of line sweeps between frame pulses, only 1080 have video on them, the remaining 45 lines are blank for flyback (in ntwo groups of 22.5 lines, one per field).

Bear in mind that there are currently no broadcast formats of 625p or 525p, these are only display formats, conversions done for various reasons in the display (e.g. all plasma and lcd displays must convert 625i (i.e. 576 lines interlaced) into a progressive format for display), and that many dvd players claim to have progressive scan outputs. I'd not assume that this display downconverts 1080 for display unless it specifically says so in the spec.
