Looking to upgrade my current Sky subscription to Sky HD with Sky plus but caught the end of this weeks Watchdog where they seemed to be heavily criticising the Sky plus boxes.

So has anyone upgraded their sky package to Sky Hd with the Sky plus boxes and what has been your experience?

sky hd box is supposed to be a sky plus with attitude.

David, I got a sky hd box just after the launch and after some initial problems has been fine, quality is generally excellent. My main criticism would be the size of the hard drive, it is I think 300GHz but only 150 available for storage, rest for future developments. Bit of a nuisance as it tends to fill up if you save some hd stuff for viewing later.

Make sure the engineer instals the latest softwaqre updatehowever, this was my problem as he didn't and I had to make a few calls to Sky, which of course you pay for.....!!

BTW, what was their criticism on watchdog, anyone see it?

I think it was basically the boxes not recording programmes properly or not at all when they were supposed to. I.E the picture would pixellate and then freeze midway through a programme.

Dave, that was the problem I was having but the software update fixed that. If anyone wants to know how to do it, I can look for the link to an earlier thread in I think July.

Sounds like Watchdog didn't do it's research very well, if the problem was just an upgrade which was available months ago? Even if some customers had slipped through the upgrade net and were still having trouble, couldn't they have just pointed anybody in a similar position to the right upgrade?

But then that wouldn't have made such a good story I suppose........

Maybe you'd like to enlighten them, George? (Pointing out the problem was solved several months ago.)

Sorry guys, was out for a bit. Yes Gary that's it, I didn't get a chance to look for it, thanks.
Dave Idoubt if it's worth it, sky should really be on the ball and you'd think watchdog would give them the chance to have their say before it went on air!

I agree.
Sky are notorious for installing out of date boxes , of all types.
How can they claim there is a shortage of boxes , yet still be installing out of date firmware versions.

Is there still a waiting list?- thought once the World cup footie was over the demand would fall off. Would be interesting to know how their rentals of HD boxes are going v. their projections.
