One of the exciting things to come along with the newer low end HDV and AVCHD camcorders is the support for HDMI output. In live mode this provides an uncompressed full 4:2:2 signal that brings a level of quality to Lower end HD than we have seen up to this point.
Many folk have pointed out the limitations of HDV etc, but here with either a converter box from Convergent Designs or a card from Blackmagic, it all seems feasible.
I have mentioned this approach several times, and I think many folks were thinking of it as a playback from tape approach which of course removes most of the advantages. BUT with a hdmi equiped camcorder, and say a Black magic card, and a pc with a fast enough storage system, incompressed HD is within reach
Here is a white paper that might make for an interesting read

One of the issues is cable length, and the cost of the multi conductor cable
There are a few options
Intelix has a balun system that runs over Cat5

And Convergent has a version that converts HDMI to HD-SDI
