deleting time/date

Is there a fairly simple way of getting rid of or blanking out the time/date thingy put on the bottom of a videotape by a camera? We have Premiere 5.1.

In the past I have just cropped the image into a letter box to get rid of the time/date.
If it's a corporate type video put the company logo over the top of it.
