In the JVC GY-HD100 thread there is mention of playback of HDV material from a DVHS player (presumably the JVC HM-DR10000 which appeared on the market in 1999 and vanished 18 months later)
Can anyone enlighten me as to the route in and out of this machine for HDV signals? Leaving aside the 1394 socket (In only and DV only) you come to the two SCARTs. AV1 appears to offer only composite and S-video. AV2 has selections for Decoder and Sat.
There is no pin wiring information for the SCARTs in the handbook. Does one or other of them offer component in/out?

from what i remember about dvhs in the home , it recorded the high quality satellite signal as a transmission stream , and that was it's source of high def tv.
http://www.jvc.com/product.jsp?productId=PRD4603000 seems to be the 'new' versions

The D-VHS recorder sold in the UK has no HD support.
JVC are using the later D-VHS units, which have the D-Theater logo, these have never been sold in Europe and have region coding for pre-recorded movies. There is also a Pro D-VHS version which has more sophisticated conditional access.

Do you imply that it simply has no HD interface, or that the recording made on the tape is not capable of handling HD?
As a test, I am experimenting with a component to RGB converter box. The box (intended for use with televisions and projectors) outputs RGB to a SCART and when I link it to the DVHS recorder there is definitely a signal being received.
I must get hold of an HD-capable TV - none of my computer monitors will run at 15.625KHz on their BNC inputs

The D-VHS decks I've seen have DVI and analogue component (YUV) outputs, but do not have analogue or DVI inputs. They record only from transmission (designed for ATSC). Commercial releases of films are fairly well available, but I doubt that the format will survive long now that PVR and DVD recorders are getting more common.
