I have been asked by a friend to film the eclipse, nearly as good as train spotting! I have a Sony Digital 8 (TRV-110) camcorder and I would like to know what sort of filters I should be using?
Any ideas?

Danger! Direct sunlight into the lens would cause fatal damage to your camcorder.

I've not got them to hand, but I know that both of our camcorder mags - Video Camera and Camcorder User - carried Solar Eclipse features in their July issues. One said use a x5 neutral density filter (VC), the other (CU) said use a combination equivalent to ND10.

As I recall, the CU piece had contact details for various suppliers and the VC piece had none!

I don't have either piece to hand, but am going to Normandy for the eclipse, so will have to read and digest them soon.

I think my starting point would probably be the web, and principally NASA's web site.

Matt, hop to A/V Hardware, where Chogg's got a hit on eclipse filming.
