im trying to stream quicktime encoded mpeg clips of a standard web server. Im using quicktime pro 6 to encode and I want to stream them as a progressive download, ie when it loads about a thrid of the movie in and then starts playing before its downloaded all with quicktimes "fast start" option.

However what is happening is that the when I click the link to the moive, nothing happens until the whole move has downloaded into the cache, then it jumps to play the moive in the the browser ONLY WHEN THE WHOLE MOVIE HAS DOWNLOADED. ie 5 minutes later. Does anyone know why this might be ?

I am clicking the prepare for internet streaming and then selecting fast start in the drop down menu.

Should be working, any ideas ?? please help !

Hi
What variety of mpeg? Fast Start progressive download only works with regular QuickTime movies, made by exporting Movie to QuickTime Movie. Ordinary mpeg1 movies dont come into this category.
If you export directly Movie to MPEG-4 then the streaming only works from an Apple Streaming Server I think.

You need to talk to your hosting provider.

Most need specific streaming capability.

However, I have found www.lunarpages.com (http://www.lunarpages.com) do not
and I have my fledgling site www.villagevisits.co.uk (http://www.villagevisits.co.uk) there. I have links to some test wmv files but I think I tested mov and was not happy with the quality I had made. The wmv looked far better.

However their servers are configured streaming video works OK.

PS If you go for their service tell them villagevisits sent you http://www.dvdoctor.net/cgi-bin/ubb/wink.gif

PS You can go to their very active forum www.lunarforums.com (http://www.lunarforums.com) and search for anyone using mov files
