Can someone tell me how to embed video-(WMV) into a web page so that it loads without Media player 9 displaying the controller?

Here's the code that I use for embedding with an http stream. Uses the mplayer 6.4 object, which is normally taken over by wmp9 when installed.

<HTML>
<HEAD>
<TITLE>Casting A Shadow</TITLE>
<script language="JavaScript">
<!--
if ( navigator.appName == "Netscape" )
{
navigator.plugins.refresh();
document.write("\x3C" + "applet MAYSCRIPT Code=NPDS.npDSEvtObsProxy.class" )
document.writeln(" WIDTH=5 HEIGHT=5 NAME=appObs\x3E \x3C/applet\x3E")
}
//-->
</script>
</HEAD>
<BODY BGCOLOR="#000a5a" LEFTMARGIN=0 TOPMARGIN=15 MARGINWIDTH=0 MARGINHEIGHT=0>
<FONT SIZE=3 COLOR="Aqua" FACE="Humanst521 BT,Arial">
<center>
<P></P><H2 ALIGN="center">Countdown</H2>

<TABLE border=0>
<TR ALIGN="center" VALIGN="middle" BGCOLOR="Blue" BACKGROUND="">
<TD ALIGN="center" VALIGN="middle" BGCOLOR="Blue"><OBJECT Width=352
Height=216
ID="MediaPlayer"
classid="CLSID:22d6f312-b0f6-11d0-94ab-0080c74c7e95"
CODEBASE="http://activex.microsoft.com/activex/controls/mplayer/en/nsmp2inf.cab#Version=6,4,5,715"
standby="Loading Microsoft Windows Media Player components..."
TYPE="application/x-oleobject">

<PARAM NAME="FileName" VALUE="yourfilefullURL.wmv">
<PARAM NAME="AnimationatStart" VALUE="true">
<PARAM NAME="TransparentatStart" VALUE="true">
<PARAM NAME="AutoStart" VALUE="true">
<PARAM NAME="ShowControls" VALUE="0">

<Embed TYPE="application/x-mplayer2"
pluginspage="http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir.dll?prd=windows&sbp=mediaplayer&ar=Media&sba=Plugin&"
SRC="yourfilefullURL.wmv"
Name=MediaPlayer
ShowControls=0
Width=352
Height=216
</embed>
</OBJECT></TD></TR></TABLE>
<P></P>
<BR>

</CENTER></FONT>
</BODY>
</HTML>

Note: You must use the full URL for media file.

Hope this helps

Hi Stuart
Wonder if you can help. I am using the script you posted (thanks) to embed .asx files on an HTML based CD Rom (hopefully netscape and IE compatible). All works fine with the SRC and filename Value given a full path, for example E:\myfile.asx however the CD drive has different letters mapped to it on different computers. Any suggestions welcomed
best
Chris

can you see my clip on my homepage?

After the offputting Shockwave download, I think the end result video was worth waiting for ! Of course, a larger screen view would have been nice, particularly for myself as I trying to highlight the detail - what file size and format is the video ?

I need to delete the shockwave clip - actually I have deleted the shockewave clip - just need to remove the reference on my page to it http://www.dvdoctor.net/cgi-bin/ubb/redface.gif

They are small in order to preserve quality, and reduce download time - if you want larger see : http://www.blufindivers.com/movies/DeeMermaid3090b.wmv I would 'right click' 'save target as' on this one - but you may need to go for a cofee break unless you are on broadband...

What system are you using? unless you use Premiere 6 or 6.5 - I cant really explain to you (usefully) how these files were created. But others might? I'm guessing most (good) systems will have a similar output options.

Do you specifically want wmv? have you tried QT .mov?

You have obviously already been down the same road before, so I am keen to hear your experiences of streaming video.

I would definitely prefer .wmv movies for maximum market ease of use. I have no trouble actually creating the wmv files, although if I do this for the streaming video/56K dial up setting(using Windows media endcoder) the file size is divided by 100, and the quality is bad ! (see the following experimental URL but don't tell anyone how bad it is !)
http://www.fairleadmarine.com/webvideo3.htm

I have been told that my hardware setup (Pentium 3/450) may be too slow - what do you have ? Also what file size were your .wmv files on the web page ? Do you know if it makes any difference (from a time delay point of view that the watcher has to suffer) what size the file is, since it will be streaming anyway ?
Thanks in advance
Roger

hi Roger

I not sure if what I am doing can be described as 'streaming' but let me see if I (and others please join in) can help.

Firstly, your settings suggest you are using Windows Media Video v.3 - this may be the only fix you need to address - we are up to v.9 now. You may need to install an update to your edit sydtem. - you havent said which it is you use.

The speed of your machine will only impact the time it takes you to create/render etc - it doesnt as far as I am aware impede the quality. I have a P4/2.8

the size of aech of my files can be seen by going into http://www.blufindivers.com/movies

- which brings me to my question - I cant see your file sizes by doing the same - How do I stop people accessing my directory in this fashion?

regards
Dee

Hi Dee

If I go to your site, the videos start quickly, although this could be because the first time I went there, I was waiting ages for shockwave to download, during which time presumably the .wmv files were downloading ?

I have v7 Win encoder installed, but will try v9, although I think this requires XP (I am using Win ME). For editing I am using Cyberlink Power Director 2.5 Pro, which is recent software, and I assume that the wmv encoder is recent too. Maybe encoders vary ? I tried the Win v7 encoder but the quality is no better than PowerD.

Regarding viewing your file sizes, it gets worse. If I wished too, I could open the files using my media player, and save to my hard disc ! I think you should seek advice from your domain host.

Brgds
Roger

Wmv 7 is good - I actually had more sucess with it than 9 until recently - however it seems your movie was made using V3

(right click on the movie - properties -advanced tab)

I can look at the precise export settings on my Premiere project when I get the chance, but I suspect you need specific advice for "Cyberlink Power Director 2.5 Pro" - but first create a movie that has in its properties "WMV7" or greater, then we can try to optimize, and see where you might be going wrong.

Dee

ps click on "post reply" at the top or bottom of the page rather than reply/w quote - it looks a little tidier - and makes an easier read for future reference http://www.dvdoctor.net/cgi-bin/ubb/smile.gif

you can remove the bold stuff in the above posts by clicking on the "edit/delete message" button in each post and getting rid of the bits between the QUOTE in brackets.

OK I have now replaced it with a later version, albeit a smaller file size. I did notice that when encoding, the exected frames per sec was 15, but the actual was 7 max. Maybe this has something to do with the problem ?

Roger - we should perhaps go back to your own thread, but to answer this one http://www.dvdoctor.net/cgi-bin/ubb/smile.gif

Doesnt this one look much better? I havent got the old version to compare to and I'm at home on my 56k so not a good way to pass comment but.... perhaps have both on your site at the same time?

as far as frames per sec - this will indeed make a difference I use 25fps - try again perhaps?

Dee

OK - Just one suggestion after reviewing the video's - lose the audio. It doesn't really add anything, and at low bit rates eats up large amounts of your bandwidth (there is a setting in WME which allows you to remove the audio)- you can then reassign the bandwidth to the video.

Hi Dee
To stop access to any directory other than you home-page directory just put a dummy HTML file called index.html into every other directory. All this web page needs to consist of is a line saying 'Go away! Directory access denied!' with no links to anywhere - except possibly your home page

Stuart
I took your advice & removed the audio. Well, I'm pleased the say that the footage looks a whole lot better ! It might have had something to do with my upgrade to Win XP, allowing the use of WME v9. Another mistake I was making was encoding in NTSC format, not PAL hence no option for 25fps ! After a lot of sweat, I'm happy, and I'd like to say a BIG thank you to all of you that offered advice !
Thanks & rgds
Roger
