Was interested to know if anyone can recommend a mobile set up for live streaming. I am looking at a pci expansion chassis for my notebook, so pci cards are a possibility; also I would need a video camera / capture solution with good audio capabilities. To be truly mobile (ie wireless) would be nice, but the low b/w means I do not want to be limited by todays technology. Any tips / advice on hardware, software etc much appreciated.

We use the Osprey 220 (http://www.viewcast.com/products/osprey/osprey220.html). It is a PCI card so you are going to need an expansion chassis. Has S-video, composite, and both balanced and un-balanced audio. Basically it is one of the best pieces of hardware I have ever bought. Works with either windows media encoder (FREE!!!!) or the real encoder (or both if you buy simulstream). Basically all it does is give your processor a raw data stream, then your processor does the encoding, so you need a bit of grunt in your laptop. The plus points are it is incredably stable. Ours runs 24 hours a day for weeks on end. It was installed and set up in minutes.

Basically it rocks. We use simulstream and encode several versions of the same thing for different offices around the country on our network. Windows Media server is a little quirky to set up, but once you get your head round it, it is fairly straight forward.

There are also other versions, including the 500 series and the 2000 series, which give you DV input and SDI etc, but obviously the price goes up. Our 220 came from www.teamsolutions.co.uk. (http://www.teamsolutions.co.uk.) Very helpful, very knowledgable bunch of people.

We are using lunchbox PCs. Nice because they are built of standard hardware (G550 matrox cards) will run Linux smoothly on dual processors which come in handy when doing reliable encoding.

Have a look at http://www.pcportable.com/

They dont come cheaply, but are definitely cheaper than streamgenie or other solutions.
