Streaming Divx

I've seen a lot around about Divx and was wondering if this is used for streaming video, or the download before you play it type video. Is this the same as MPEG4 video, so you can get the same quality by encoding using the Microsoft Media Player 8 codec?

As far as I know there are no streaming options with Divx, although it's certainly brilliant for downloads. However Quicktime 6 is now using mpeg4, so you might get divx quality with true streaming? Not totally up to speed on this but it looks interesting.
