the most basic way of doing this is to edit in Premiere and then choose "save for web" from the "Export TimeLine" option in the file menu. This brings up a wizzard for saving out streaming files. The settings are a little basic though. As for what do you need - you have it already.

If this doesn't answer your question, please ellaborate bit more on what the problem is.

I suppose what I am saying Premier 6 does not appear to support .wmv files as is (ie you cannot import them into the timeline.

Last night when browsing I noticed reference to a Premier plug in for Windows Media player (on MS Media support site) but have not managed to track it down.

hmmmmmmmmmmm not sure then. I will have a look, however I would be suprised if they offered a reason for importing WMV as these are your final playout (compressed) files. Editing them would most likely mean re-compressing them. streaming compression has to work hard as it is. Giving it already heavily compressed footage and trying to compress it again you will probably come out with dreadful quality footage.

No, I'm with ps on this - almost 100% you can't drop wmv onto the premiere timeline because they don't adhere to standard frame rates etc

You only go to wmv/QuickTime/Real from Premiere when you want to export - this then launches Cleaner EZ or Real encoder and allows you to spit out whatever compressed files you want...

Although, having said that, there should be a way of 'gluing' to wmv files together - but I would think editing them in the traditional sense would be VERY tricky!
