After the thread I started in the General forum http://www.dvdoctor.net/cgi-bin/ubb/Forum10/HTML/007613.html I thought it would be interesting to start a thread relating peoples experiences of connecting to ADSL Broadband.
I know some members have had a bit of a nightmare, but I have to say my experience was quite smooth. Due to advice from a few other forum members I decided to opt for the PIPEX service. I registered online and got an email back within a few days telling me when BT would activate my line. After reading about different modems at http://www.adslguide.org.uk/ I decided to go for the Fujitsu FDX310 USB modem, which I ordered from http://www.dabs.com
The first thing I did was download all the instructions on setting up a new account from the PIPEX site. Following these to the letter I was ready to connect the modem (Drum role, excitement builds!!!!) I loaded the drivers connected the modem and clicked connect................and nothing happened.
I noticed that when I put the modem drivers on the computer that this also created a connection icon, so instead of messing about with the PIPEX connection I tried this. All I had to do was enter my user name and password, click connect and........ It worked!
Five minutes after taking the modem out of the box I was up and running. I am very pleased with the connection speed and to test it I downloaded a 80MB video clip from the net, something I would never have contemplated before! wow!
So whilst I know a few members have had problems my advice is sometimes you can be lucky. My only problem is that I have just applied for a new job in an area that doesn't have ADSL...I am not sure if I could ever go back to a 56K modem. http://www.martinshakeshaft.com/cv/bang.gif
Cheers
