I have been asked to video a band at a live gig.I intend to you one camera as a lock of from the rear of the room with another by the side of it to get various mid shots. I will also be videoing the rehearsal from the stage to get close ups with i will then sync up with rest of the shots. Audio will be recorded to mini disk by the sound engineer.
My question is does anyone have any expierence in this sort of work and if so give me any tips and advice.
Many thanks, Neale.

Neale,
It all depends on the type of music and the atmosphere of the venue. Having said that, don't forget the audience! It's the audience that make it a live performance, so they should feature quite strongly in the video too. Think about getting a reverse shot onto their faces at some point in the set. If it's a lively gig, a shot or three like this can mean the difference between a static promo and an interesting video.
Best of luck,
Pete
Hi Neale. I recently did a ballett followed a few weeks later by jazz. In "event video" I try to follow guidelines as follow: Check monitors prior to shoot and believe in them. Attend as many rehearsals as needed so that all light cues are known - make notes of each setting - In live theatre often we shoot wide open find the common focus point. Keep one camera loose all the time. White balance each camera. Capture audio on and off camera - Do not rely on the sound system alone. keep cool,. check often. enjoy - good luck
