A colleague has reported a "feature" of these decks is refusal to record on a pre-striped tape - ie if it detects timecode, it bars recording.
Has anyone found a fix or workaround?
Thanks
Appreciate a post to rec.video.desktop or email.

No this is a 'feature' common to the JVC and makes it a real problem.
Only solution (until I obtained the Panasonic NV DV 2000) was to put new tapes in when rendering my final cut videos. But not ideal

Richard and others.
Received this recently from my colleague. He is Roger Watson rwatson@perthpcug.org.au
It seems to me this may be a very useful workaround. We are, of course, PAL here.
....
Just an update on the Premiere/DV Raptor to HR-DVS1 problem.
I took my computer to the JVC Service Centre today in Perth and connected via Firewire to another HR-DVS1 and the result was the same. I was able to record to a new tape but not to one that already had time code.
In subsequent tests, I discovered that when I use 'Export to Tape' and am connected to my Sony camera, the time code displayed in 'Export to Tape' remains static and the recording is OK.
If I 'Export to Tape' and am connected to the HR-DVS1, the time code displayed in 'Export to Tape' runs forwards about two seconds before recording commences and the recording is faulty. If I use the 'Export to Tape' controls to fast forward and then rewind the HR-DVS1, the time code in 'Export to Tape' displays as --/--/-- and the recording is OK.
So - I have a solution.
I will put it on the Raptor Forum soon to advise others that may have a similar unit.
