hello
my first post on this board - I have visited often.
I have been using a Sony TR805 with an ECM 959 stereo mic for many years and bought a PC110 last week. I have since returned it to the company I bought it from. The sound quality was attrocious !! tinny, feeble and with as much motor noise as my fridge. I tried to connect the ECM 959. When "mounted" the ECM did a great job of picking up the motor noise - with a wider dynamic range. I then tested the PC110 using the ECM mic via the mic input with the ECM at its fullest stretch (about three feet away). Even then there was an audible motor noise coming from the body of the PC110 through the mics mini-jack !!
I want to buy a small DV camera which can double as a "almost DAT" quality sound when attached to an external mic.
Any suggestions ?

thanks

jake

If you like you can record sound with a mini-disc and use it for interviews etc. We have no problems in getting it synchronized afterwards in AP5.1

Did you use battery power?

Hi,

Do you use an external Mic with the mini-disc recorder?

Regards

Jim Bird.

Dear Jan
thanks for the suggestion. I was hoping that the PC110 would have worked in a similar way - ie as a standalone audio unti with an external mic. but the motor noise was so bad that the noise transfered via the minijack to the mic.
Oh well, maybe I'll look a the others in the PC range

I think you'll find that the 959 simply heard the sound of the camera in the room and faithfully recorded the noise. It won't have had anything to do with the mini jack connection.
