View Full Version : Is there a Photoshop filter to remove barrel distortion?

I'd like to print some of my DV frames but the wide-angle converter I used has added barrel distortion to the image. Is there a Photoshop filter that I can apply to counteract this? I've tried the "spherise" filter in its negative mode but it doesn't go right to the edges. Any clues?

There is a freeware plug-in which does just that:

Hi
You can do it in Photoshop without any extra plug-ins etc - via this workaround:

1. Copy the whole of your image -CtrlA/CtrlC
2. Select File:New (or CtrlN)
3. In the dialogue box make the background transparent
4. Make the canvas pixels dimensions larger by 1.2 times the longer size of your image
5. Close the dialogue box
6. Paste your image into your new frame - CtrlV
7. Select all - CltlA
8. Select Filter - Distort - Spherize
9. Set the slider to -40. Click OK
10. Crop the blank space and curved edges off the undistorted image. Voila!

You may need to fiddle with the exact numbers in 4 and 9 - my 1536x1024 Canon digital pix work when I use a 1850x1850 canvas.

I found a shareware programme that did all this, but was much more complicated so I never use any other way these days. Using it means I can get really wideangle pix to stitch together for 360º Virtual Reality panoramas really well
Regards
