Have you changed anything on the software side recently? Try loading the driver for an earlier model to rule out hardware failure.

Charles, Alan Roberts posted a "printing problem" item on 22 February; it may not be the answer to your problem, but it is similar. Tony Carter

My problem was that I put in a Jessops colour cartridge and immediately got rubbish results. I'd been using Epson cartridges 'til then so suspected the cartridge. I managed to get it out and a genuine one in, but I had to clean the heads several times before it all came good.

So, based on my experience and nothing else, I'd recommend using only Epson cartridges, and running the cleaning routines several times. It might work, but if it doesn't, I'm going to be as worried as you are.

Hope that helps.

I'd used Epson inks exclusively until the Jessop's colour cartridge (I suspect all the non-Epson ones are actually made by the same firm anyway). I ran the cleaning routine two or three times, can't recall exactly. I also ran the nozzle alignment routine. Since then, all has been well.

All I can suggest is to keep running the cleaning routine, if that doesn't fix it eventually, I have to give up. I've read a few accounts of people who've ruined printers by using non-manufacturers inks, I just hope you're not another statistic.

Well i ran the cleaning routine another 6 times and things seem to have come right.
Think i will be joining Alan in just buying Epson ink from now on.
Thanks

Oh well, no contest then, glad it all worked out.

Let's look at this another way; my advice came from experience of a problem on one occasion after over a year of faultless operation. I'd changed a colour cartridge and was loooking for any problem because it was the first non-Epson one I'd tried. There may or may not have been a causal relationship, I can't tell because one occurrence is statistically insignificant. The jet clogging might have happened if I'd put an Epson cartridge in, I can't tell.

In just the same way, you might have had exactly the same problem if you'd been using Epson cartridges, we can't tell. All we know is that we both had problems, and managed to clear them using mainenance routines provided for just that purpose. I reckon that's some kind of triumph for somebody, perhaps you should get your wife the flowers anyway http://www.dvdoctor.net/cgi-bin/ubb/smile.gif

Glad you sorted it out.

I had a similar problem with black lines on a HP 840c that was sorted with a change of driver. I think I should have payed more attention to the English. My problem was obviously software as the lines were straight and true and I guess a streak is ..well ..more streaky!
