I got an email yesterday from some company about their editing software called "blade". Looks a bit like edition and boasts many of the same features. I downloaded the trial and it seems quite nice. It's taking me a while to get to grips with the interface though...
just wandering if anyone knows anything about it...

hmmmmmmm looks nice. My personal opinion is that Speed Razor is better than Premiere. In Sync make reliable, stable and user friendly software and based on that perhaps Blade might be in similar vein a good program? Time for a play me thinks......?

Yes, I got the email too (at home). No time to download or test anything though.

Blade is a Firewire only, software preview version of Speed Razor 2000X.
Speed Razor was the first software to break the 2/4gb file limit and the first to play out directly from the timeline.
I have been running (beta) Blade for several weeks and it's now approaching shrink wrap condition.
With a powerful computer Blade will play numerous layers of video/effects/titles to VGA instantly but you still need to render the project before you can record to tape.
Speed Razor is what I class as professional editing software alongside the likes of Liquid Purple whilst Blade will compete directly with Avid XpressDV and Edition but it has inherited Speed Razor's drag and drop style, none of this assigning tracks to the timeline; and an intuitive, easy to use GUI.
I can't wait to see a review in CV.

I downloaded and installed Blade a week or so ago, but the PCs I have got are simply not up to the job (the best being an Athlon 1.1GHz).
I'm trying to get built a couple of bang up to date machines - one P4, the other Athlon - so that we'll be better-equipped to look at software that requires a lot of processor power, such as Blade (and stuff like Matrox RT.X10/100 and Canopus Storm).
Hopefully, these machines will be ready before Blade is finalised.

I have Blade, Edition and Premiere 6.2 The best of the 3 is Blade. I used Premiere and Speed Razor in the Past and there is no comparison between the two. Blade is similar to Speed Razor it is specially made for DV work. Excellent Product and a Great support team.

fantastic response...
i forgot to tick the email notification box on the original post and this thread seemed to disapear down the list so i lost it. Eventually got around to doing a search for it today and i'm now going to give it a second look (might have to squeeze an extra hour into the day somewhere) but i'm a bit concerned that my 1.67GHz athlon wont be enough... we shall see.
