Eventially I want to attach a TV to my raptor to see the real output while capturing, scrubbing and previewing my DV footage. So, what size TV would you suggest is the acceptable minimum that I'd be happy with, to spot imperfections and see a good view of the real output? Ie. 14inch?

Also, as you may know, some TVs cut more off the screen edges than others. So, can you reccomend one that doesn't do this too much. As I'd hate to monitor the video on my little TV only to find someone elses TV is showing something extra at the edges I didn't know about?

Thanks.

If you are watching the TV at the same distance as your (17", 19", 21"?) computer monitor then a 14" is about right - the resolution of a TV is less than a computer monitor so being a bit smaller works well.

If the results of your editing are to be watched by viewers with 'domestic' overscan on their TV's then a standard model with domestic overscan is no bad thing - you can see what they will see and your computer will still give you the original picture.

Jez...I just bought a lovely little 14" Thomson from Tecno...the main reason being that the scart socket supports S/VHS ( which is very rare on small TVs )...like you having gone to all the expense of digital quality, it is at least nice to see the TV output as best as possible.

The other good news is that it cost just £99:99... a bargain !!

Thanks guys.

I see that monitor is going to be reviewed in CV, so I'll check it out at some point.

Having SVHS onit sounds great. BTW - where's the best place to buy this from? (Tel no/ website?)

Jez,

At £99, and with a personal recommendation from someone here, I don't think I'd wait for our review if I was you!

Panasonic XG10 is first class. It has an S-Video socket. Originally recommended by Charles Higgins on this Bulletin Board. I run it alongside my 19'' monitor and it works very well. I'm couldn't manage without it now. If you can - try before you buy.
