Hi there

I recently bought an on camera mike from jessops, it was a basic stereo mike with a soft foam wind gag. I fitted it to my Sony D8 TRV-320E but I have noticed that it picks up the sound of the cameras mechanism. Is this because the mike is cheap or can I minimise the problem some other way. I can still take the mike back as it is less than a week old. I have tried to move the mike off the camera by half a foot and the noise dissapates. However even if i hold the mic just above the hot shoe the noise comes back.

I have noticed another mic on Keene's site for about £40 it is switchable from mono to stereo and can be used off the camera has anyone used this mic before? Unfortunatley I can't afford a sennheiser.

If I have made a total blunder in buying this mike could someone give me some tips on what is this best mike to use on my camera.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards

The Duke

Sounds like (if you'll excuse the pun) vibration through the hot shoe, if that is where you have mounted it.
Any other microphone will suffer the same unless you can insulate it in some way.
I made a bracket for mine nad had a piece of fowm bonded with araldite to insulate.
Works a treat

It's best to just ask the question in the one topic - A/V Hardware is appropriate in this case http://www.dvdoctor.net/cgi-bin/ubb/smile.gif

Take it back for a refund - a suspension mount won't fix it as you have already discovered that proximity to the camera is causing a problem as well as mechanical vibration.

See if you can try a Sennheiser MKE300 or MKE300D (D version is adapted to cope with interference from certain digital cameras) before you buy. Either save up for one or look for one second hand - one has just been sold in the classified section of this conference.
