query regarding Vaio and dv storm/ raptor rt

hiya i have been getting conflicting advice from various resellers of the canopus range.

I have the sony desktop vaio rx203 with built in texas firelink ports on an asus motherboard 845 chipset.

I Have been told by some people i can fit a canopus storm /raptor rt no problem some say i cant do it.

Has anyone put one into a sony desktop vaio?


i have a second hand normal raptor card. I was thinking if i fit this as a trial just to see if it works with Xp.
If it does work can i assume the raptor rt and storm will fit?

The reason i think the raptor is ok as i can use the dsr 11/250 to input video to the computer

Hence thought save money and get the raptor rt.

What is missing from the advice you have been given so far is 'why'. 'Why' do some people say one thing and some the other? What reasons do they give?

hiya what i have been told by some dealers is that yes it will work and it just a board you shove in , set up drivers there you go.

However some people say that you need a dedicated system built for editing. And that buying a system out of box like my sony is no good and i would have problems installing the card and getting it to work and capture.

they mention problems like motherboard incompatibilty and seting it up wrong.

i dont whether dealers are saying this because they want to supply the system themselves to gain the revenue.

my other problem is that the sony vaio although a great machine sony dont mention anything technical about it like who the motherboard is made by, is pci 2.1?
etc hence i cant check against the listings on canopus home page.

The reason i went ahead and bought the sony was that i looked around for a dvstorm system and most people wanted around 2800 + vat for p4 based system with a storm dvd rewriter and 120 gb hd

The sony vaio is only 1100. with out a storm card ( which is 675) and in some cases better hardware spec

however I have the problem sorted.

Thanks to Pro Av of hempel hempstead. Paul there says that they have a demo storm card so im gonna pop and see them with my system install the card and see if it works.
