I'm now running WinXP and would like some advice.

Firstly, I've read that I should create an Emergency Repair floppy disk that will help recover a crashed system. When I run Backup-Advanced Mode-ASR wizard XP appears to try and backup my whole PC to Floppy disk. How many floppys does an ERD usually span?

Secondly, How can I convert my C drive from FAT32 to NTFS without using Partition Magic. I've looked at the help screen in Convert.exe but I did not fully understand what to do and it looks like I cannot convert the partition that is running, ie. C drive.

I can't comment about the number of floppies - hopefully someone else will do that.

As for your other question - if the drive to be converted is the active system drive, you get the following error message,

"Convert cannot gain exclusive access to the [driveletter]:, so it cannot convert it now. Would you like to schedule it to be converted the next time the system restarts (Y/N)?"

If you select Y, then the conversion (non-destructive) will take place the next time the PC is rebooted.

4 to 6 floppies necessary for a floppy-based boot of Windows NT/2000/XP

Thanks for the reply chaps. I'll try the ERD now and the conversion when I feel brave. :0)
