Is it possible to record from one camera to another?
I have a Panasonic DS15(DV in enabled) and a Panasonic DS28. I have connected them together with a four pin firewire lead. The DS15 is the player and the DS28 is the recorder. With the DS15 playing and the DS28 recording all it records is the lens cap not the video coming from the DS15. If I put the DS28 in VCR mode I can see the playback on the LCD display. I have tried it the other way around and get the same result. It should work, I think, because you record back to the camera from the computer via the firewire lead. What am I missing?
Thanks

Yes, it should work. Make sure both camcoirders are in vcr mode. Press Play on one, and Record on the other. If the recording deck has been widgetted to make it record, you'll need to use the button on the widget to start it recording.

You say the DV15 is In abled but you are using the DS28 as the recorder. Might this be the basis of the problem? Or is the DS28 In abled by default.

Keith is spot on. Recording must be performed on the DV in enabled machine. I do it on my Canons and it is as simple as pressing play on one and record on the other. You should see the playaback image on the LCD display of the receiving camera.

Yes Play on one and record the other is enabled.
Keitht The DS28 is DV in/out from Panasonic
SIFI I can see the playback on both cameras LCD screen when I use that as the record camera.
Both camera are DV in, I have tried both as the record/player and both just video the lens cap. I must be missing something, help.

On your receiving camera do you have it set to Camera or VCR mode. It must be in VCR mode to use the DV in facility. The fact that it is recording the lens cap suggests it is in Camera mode as it is recording what it sees as opposed to what it is being fed.

I also have a DS28B and initially was stumped by the process. Check page 32 of your operating instructions "Using the DV Cable for Recording". There you will see that you need to use the Remote Controller to record on the DS28, by pressing the REC and PLAY buttons. I sometimes find this a bit fiddly - small buttons and my large fingers - but it works.

SIFI The camera was tried in camera and VCR mode and still did not record when the record button pressed on the camera.
The solution was as drgagx suggested, have to use the remote control to record camera to camera by presssing the REC and Play buttons. The recording camera has to be in VCR mode for this to work.
A BIG thank you to everyone for helping me with this problem.
THANKS
