A very newbie colleague has installed Studio 9 Plus and has been learning the editing etc. all with no problems.
I was actually with him this morning when he went on to make a tape of his masterpiece.
At the end of the rendering stage, the computer crashed and rebooted back to Windows. Studio 9 was restarted and the project rendering done again. (It's only about 7 minutes in length) We tried this several times with the same results.
I don't know the programme at all myself. Has anyone any advice or clues on the problem please.

where is he saving the render files to ?
how much memory in the pc ?
how fast a processor etc ?
with studio i have always done the following
1. render timeline to a finished avi.
2. reload that avi and output that to tape.

Thanks Gary,
I will go to see him shortly to get further gen as unfortunately he is not 'with it' enough to answer questions about his PC on his own.
You will note that I said that at the rendering timeline to avi, the PC crashed so he was unable to save anyway.

The way I've found that gives fewer problems is to turn off all services that you don't need, including anti-virus, firewall and any system monitors. The rendering process is very memory intensive and doesn't swap we well as could be expected.
One thing to check is that there's enough swap area - you don't say which OS - the solution to the way to check that varies (as do the methods of stopping services) so a little more information would be of assistance. (need OS type, disk size, ,memory size, processor speed etc etc.)

Friends,
Thanks for taking the trouble with your words of wisdom and advice.
I called to see him last evening and looked over the specs on his machine that (as I have said) he doesn't understand at all. He has had other ‘experts’ look in and it certainly appears that there is a problem with memory/virtual memory. He will have to wait to his 'expert' can sort that out. He only has 256 of memory to start with and a half filled single ‘C’ drive of 80gig.
We did try again with his short bit of video and, whilst the machine didn't crash, an hour later it was still rendering and he left me a message this morning saying that he had left the PC on overnight and it was still saying 'Please Wait' at 8am this morning
Don't think we can do much more from him as it stands and I don’t want to waste your time, so thanks again.
Cheers. Pete

Pinnacle Studio taking hours to render AND crashing?
Hard to credit, really.
Just for the record - I'm running Studio 9.4.2 here on an Athlon 64 3200 with 2GByte of RAM and twin 160GByte Sata HDDs and it's TERRIBLY slow.
The file on the timeline is quite long - 50min - but what I'm doing is virtually NOTHING, cos the purpose of the exercise is to update a tutorial on creating moving DVD menus within Studio from scratch, so I'm effectively tinker.
Roll on V10 based on the Edition program code, that's what I say!
