I'm in the process of buying a MAC and an editing suite (probably EditDV)to edit from a mini DV source. One dealer tells me IDE drives are definitely good enough (when used with the PROMAX accelerator card), another tells me I definitely need SCSI drives. Who is right?

EIDE are fast enough if:

a) you get up-to-date fast ATA 33 or 66

b) your computer supports them properly. This must include DMA support, otherwise the CPU is actively involved in driving them.

I cannot comment on whether MACs, which were traditionally SCSI have the necessary support

Neither of the dealers is right. Ultra ATA drives should be plenty fast enough if connected directly to the motherboard.

See a posting of mine of today's date giving contact details for a very useful G3 site.
