Help needed
I have a motherboard with an intel BX chipset. I have just purchased an 18 gig SCSI drive for capture purposes. I have fdisked to use all of the drive in one partition, which seems to be fine. However when I attempt to format the drive it only formats about 8 gig of the drive ? Any answers?
Thanks in advance

I am in a similar position. I installed a 17Gb disk last night and the BIOS only recognises 8Gb and FDISK 528Mb!
My advice to you is to try and get an updated BIOS. Although, for me, this is proving extremely difficult as Gateway are only offering the same version as I have installed and both Intel and American Megatrends don't want to help!
There maybe another route. My drive is a Fujistu and they recommend a utility called Disk Manager/Go! "This is a DOS-based program for ATA drives to help overcome the capacity limitations that some older BIOS's have. I.E 528MB, 2.1GB or even the 8.4GB"
Not had a chance to try it yet, but I'll let you know tomorrow how it went.
Download it from:
www.fujitsu-europe.com
Good luck!

oops! Sorry just re-read your query and spotted the word SCSI!
However, the principle of a third party widget still stands.

When I got my 14 gig IBM drive I asked if the supporting software came with it they said yes but it didn't (thanks Scan). Anyway the IBM site had the software for the IBM drive (I had to type in the serial number of the drive before downloading).
Anyway the IBM software Fdisked the drive then formated it for me (WIndows 95 FAT32).
Check the web site for your drive just n case.
